My Personal Experience / Jerry LePre

As an author of multiple books, I understand the many challenges faced by first time authors. Back in 1992, when I was told by a well-known publisher he wanted to publish my book, I was thrilled. However, I quickly learned I had to give up a lot of control regarding editorial and graphic content along with a majority of my royalties and rights to my work.

Thus, after having my first two books traditionally published, I decided to self-publish my next book. Although I had a lot to learn, I was able to keep my vision for my book while quadrupling my royalty checks. I even got AMAZON to promote it.

Yet, in the process of self-publishing my book, I made a lot of mistakes. I must admit it was a huge learning curve. I had to select a printer and editor, obtain an ISBN number and get my work copyrighted. I even had to search for a graphic artist who shared my artistic vision. Since I didn’t like the book templates provided, I formatted my customized templates and started the tedious tasks of layout, rewriting and proofing.

As a result, JOYFUL LIFE PUBLISHING (JLP) was formed to empower writers, like you, to take your dream book from the first thought to the bookshelf.
